Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone The time era Harry Potter was in was in the late 1990’s in England, but it was never confirmed in the book. In the beginning the house Harry lives in is on Privet Drive in Surrey, England and the setting is soon transferred to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. “Logically it [Hogwarts] had to be set in a secluded place, and pretty soon I settled on Scotland in my mind. I think it was in subconscious tribute to where my parents had married. People keep saying they know what I based Hogwarts on--but they’re all wrong. I have never seen a castle anywhere that looks the way I imagine Hogwarts” (Rowling, 1). Hogwarts is a very strange castle most likely located in Scotland. It has many changing staircases, secret passages, and hidden doors. It is the school Harry and both of his parents attended. Mrs. Rowling designed the book to be in the third person point of view, it is not being told in the first person. Harry is the hero and protagonist of the book.
