Effects of Televison in Linda Ellerbee, and Delores Currans

In America today, entertainment doesn't anymore just happen, like a common board game or anything of that nature. But instead, entertainment has moved to an element called the television. In both articles, one written by Delores Curran, "What Good Families Are Doing Right", and he other by Linda Ellerbee " Television Changed my Family Forever", each shows us, the reader, many great examples of how television can have a negative effect upon the family. There are many negative effects that happen when something such as a television is brought into a family as new entertainment. Families start to not communicate or interact as much before, things begin to be done around the schedule of television, and lastly, probably the most important problem is the fact of nonverbal conversations which can begin arguments and other things. With those effects, it can easily be shown that television has many negative effects upon families. By using this technology, TV has altered dinner time as not as important as it once was. Therefore, not having anytime to see how one's day was and what they did, shows that they were not interested in what their kid(s) they have been doing in school. The family unit begins to unravel, thereby changing the home into just a house to live at and eat. Talking is a huge part of a family. If there is no talking within a family, than things usually begin to fall apart, divorce can become an option, and nothing ever gets accomplished around the house or apartment. Interaction is a mandatory part of a family. Television has the potential of limiting a family's ability to speak with one another. While family members would rather spend their time watching TV then talk to one another.
