Abortions
In this paper I want to talk about the safety of women undergoing abortions. Others reacted negatively to what they considered indecent advertising. The greatest pressure for legal change came from the American Medical Association (AMA), founded in 1847. Horatio Robinson Storer, a Boston physician, led it. “Surveys conducted under the auspices of the AMA and the federal government confirmed the persistence of widespread abortion in the United States through the 1930s.” In January 1973 Roe v. Wade, The Supreme Court ruled that abortion is a constitutional right. It ruled that women, as part of their constitutional right to privacy, could choose to terminate a pregnancy prior to the point at which the fetus reached a stage of development that would allow it to survive outside the womb. After that abortion became a divisive and intensely emotional public issue. (A history of abortion, 448). “There are studies, which indicate that the Court is a significant factor in shaping and changing deeply held beliefs. The Supreme Court consistently upheld the legality of abortion in a series of cases in the early and mid-1980s, and the trend has continued in the last several years.” (Ranjita, 85).
