It is a terrible cycle all throughout the book with Brett. She continuously breaks men's hearts. Cohn loses his temper, Mike drinks, and Romero, who is simply a boy, leaves the scene completely. To say that she does not break Jake's heart is a lie, but Jake handles it well. Brett is a woman with no apparent agenda who floats from man to man without realizing what she is doing to them.
