Written by Canadian writer John Mighton and directed by Adrian Osmond, Possible Worlds is a cosmic, quasi-scientific mystery exploring love in a quantum universe. The play follows a romantic relationship through several times and spaces and investigates the nature of love, time and the importance of imagination in living our lives. Winner of Canada's prestigious Governor General's Award, Possible Worlds has subsequently been performed across North America and recently was made into an award-winning film by renowned director/playwright Robert Lepage. Starring Raquel Cassidy (from Channel 4's Teachers), Stephen Hogan, Damien Thomas, Billy Riddoch and John Kielty. As part of the Six Stages Festival of Canadian Theatre and Dance Starring: Tilda Swinton, Tom McCamus If you take a fascinating premise and a gifted director, you are bound to produce an entrancing film, even if it has a few flaws. Who killed George Barber (Tom McCamus) and why was his brain stolen? It has something to do with alternate realities and the existence of more than one George Barber but, whatever the explanation, audiences can be forgiven for thinking it's not just Barber's brain that's missing. Robert Lepage ("Le Confessional", "No") is very talented but "Possible Worlds" is very dumb. It's not that the film's concept, adapted by John Mighton from his play, is a bad one, but that Lepage's execution of it is so inept and so annoyingly solemn. McCamus plays his parts monotonously and Tilda Swinton as both a neurology professor and a businesswoman fails to delineate her two characters. Other than the differing hairstyles, they may as well be the same person. Add some scientific mumbo jumbo, some pointlessly exotic sets and a whole lot of pretentious dialogue and you'll wish you were in any world but this one.-Shlomo Schwartzberg Based on the play by John Mighton, the story centres on a man (Tom McCamus) who believes in the existence of infinite parallel realities, or "possible worlds." He is gifted with the ability to slip from one world into another, while maintaining a continuous awareness of his existence. He becomes obsessed with a recurring character in these worlds (Tilda Swinton), with whom he shares a complex series of relationships. The film begins as a crime mystery. Following a gruesome murder, the victim's brain is missing. The police are clueless and without any leads. On another tangent there's George (Tom McCamus) who doesn't seemed too concerned with any laws, especially the laws of physics. He bounces in and out of time, experiencing an infinite number of worlds, each with slight
