Communism Versus Democracy

Every country needs to have a stable and effective government in order to form a prosperous and peaceful society. Due to the fact that each country has different culture and ways of living, people's opinion on political system may vary: some people find one type of government system suitable for the society they belong to while others may prefer a different type because it gives them better living standard in one way or the other. Long ago, humans started to choose leaders for the protection and development of their regions. This system has still been preserved till the present day that people choose a representative or a leader in the hope that they would lead their hometown into better directions. The two major types of political systems this paper will cover are Democracy and Communism. Despite their differences, both systems seek ways to help improve and reform a society. To fully understand the aspects and principles of both systems, it would be wise to acknowledge the advantages and disadvantages of each system so that we can comprehend why one system become so popular while the other collapse.

Communism. According to the Webster's dictionary, communism is fundamentally a system of social organization in which

3) Economic growth: Under democracy, government promote and regulate the concept and principles of the free market. The reasons why democracy works very well in many societies are much attributable to the concept of the "free market" or Capitalism that allow people and the economic system to acquire profit through investment of capital and employment of labor. It is simply based on the concept of free enterprise, which argues that "government interferences in the economy should be limited and that a free market based on supply and demand will maximize consumer welfare." As far as economy concerns, Democracy has better laws than communism. If a country has bad laws, the country economy will not develop because there is no investment laws or laws protecting private property; as a result, there will be neither investment nor capital accumulation. Democratic nations tend to place importance on wealth of the countries by maintaining good international trading relationship. And the economic growth rate in many countries improve from overseas exports. In addition, free market also make people want to work harder because the distribution of income is entirely based on the amount and productivity of work one produces.

3) Roles of Money in Democracy: Morally speaking, money is evil and despicable because it often symbolize humans' greed in many circumstances. In the free market society, the possibility of having equal distribution of wealth is nearly impossible. The gap between the rich and the poor consistently widen: wealthy people become richer and richer while the poor remain poor. Money is considered the most essential asset an individual needs to have because there is nothing free in democracy. Advanced education and health care are only available to the certain group of people who can afford the cost. It is quite noticeable that people who belong to the working class find democracy disadvantageous because they lack that most important asset, money. As money plays a very important role in democratic society, social classes are divided based on level of wealth. People fail to realize the fact that education is the factor that determine one's class rather than money.

1) Decision making ability: The decision making process is very slow due to the procedures that must be subjected to many departments for approval. Plus the fact that free elections must be held sometimes slow down the process of government working. Also the balance of ruling power is spreaded out to several branches of the government in different departments such as presidency, the congress, constitutional court, politicians, and so forth. Naturally the more people, the more opinions, the more disagreements. In order to impose a new law, government is required to set up conferences with its members and also report to the citizens with detailed explanation through the media.

2) Decisions making process: Naturally, the less disagreement there is on any issue, the faster solutions can be approved and carried out. Ruling government that has no objection tend to be very decisive because whatever ideas, laws, or solutions they come up with will be effective and accepted automatically. The fact that each job is done effectively faster can tremendously contribute to a country in many positive ways. The government is able to solve a problem without worrying too much about the shortcomings that may follow; as well as they can finish more works in a very short period of time. For example, when china was under communism economic boost programs like the "Five Years Plan" or " Great Leap forward" were promoted and regulated without any concern. Consequently, economic a serious problem like inflation was brought under control in a very short time.

2) Value of work: As mentioned earlier, the major goal that the communists want to accomplish is to create a peaceful society based on equality. Thus, everyone is guaranteed with some sort of
