A detailed Summary of Two Old Women Vs. Smoke Signals


In life people go through many journeys; both good and bad. In the story Two Old Women, and in the movie, Smoke Signals, their are two people who both go through different journeys, but both have a mesmerizing end to both.

In the story Two Old Women there are two old women in a tribe that are pretty much hand fed. They do absolutely nothing, while the rest of the tribe does all of the work, such as hunting and preparing the food. Eventually, during the Winter, the tribe starts to get scarce on food and must leave behind the people that are dragging them down. So, the leader of the tribe tells everyone that they must leave the two old women behind, even though most of the people don't fully agree with the decision. As the people in the tribe keep their mouth shut, the tribe leaves the two old women behind while they go to a new territory. The two old women realize that they're all alone and must do everything themselves. Through a tough winter, and a year after, the women have learned how to do things by themselves, and how to be better people in general. During the year, the two old women decided to find the tribe, to prove to them that they could survive by themselves. So, the two women gathered as much food as they possibly


The movie Smoke Signals dealt with a North American Indian family that had a man in it named Joseph. In the beginning Joseph was drunk and started a fire by lighting off fireworks in a house that had people in it. The house burnt down, but before the house burnt down, one of the people in the house through a baby out the window. Joseph saw the baby being thrown, ran towards it, and caught it. He saved the child's life..... But he killed the people in the house. As a few years pass by, Joseph's drinking is worse; he is drunk most of the time. The child that was saved, his son, Victor hated him when he drank. One morning Victor was throwing the beer bottles and breaking them against the back of his father's truck. The mother woke up by the sounds of breaking glass, and saw what Victor was doing. She then woke her husband up, Joseph, and yelled at him that they couldn't drink anymore, that he couldn't drink anymore especially. The father became outraged about this, and angrily left his home and moved to Ohio. Everyone was upset in the family, but as years passed, and as Victor became and adult, wanted to see his father one more time.
