Patriotism
Patriotism is defined as the act of loving, supporting, and honoring one's country. I would say it is that and so much more. Patriotism has elements of emotion that are difficult to describe, such as the chills of happiness that wash over one's being in moments of patriotic pride, I experienced this feeling for a long time after September 11th attacks, when George Bush gave a speech, in which he simply concluded by stating, "Let's Roll!" The emotion I refer to is an unspoken oneness with fellow citizens. In truly patriotic people, it id not a fleeting feeling, but remains in the heart, always ready to be felt and acted upon. Unfortunately, patriotism if often laced with sadness and grieving, as we all well know. Many of them have no idea when they may be able to return home to their loved ones. Sadly, many receive little or no correspondence from anyone in our country, although we are so proud of them. In the wake of September 11th, I believe most of us have felt compelled to do something helpful. Generosity and good deeds have, and continue to be, displayed in an abundance of historical proportions. What many others, and I are guilty of is waiting until disaster strikes to get involved, instead of longstanding commitment to worthy causes. In my opinion, patriotism must begin with continuous humanitarianism in the home and c9ommunity. This only stands to better a nation composed of many communities. There is so much need, so much that we can do. For instance,
