Romeo and Juliet

How Lack of Communication can lead to Tragedy

Acting on impulse and not thinking things through or communicating with others to see what they think can lead to tragedy. The lack of communication in this play and the rush to get married without thinking things through and acting on one emotion can cause things to happen that you don't expect. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows how lack of communication combined with lust can lead to a tragic end. It wasn't fate that killed Romeo and Juliet it was the fact that they were young and felt the need to fall in love with someone. They were also lustful towards each other so that made them think that they were in love with each other. But in fact they weren't in love with each other they were just young and didn't have enough experience. This combined with lack of communication lead to their deaths. They did not talk to their parents about what they were feeling instead they talked about it to each other and to their councillors. If they had talked it through with their families and let them know that they loved each other then this never would have happened. So love at first sight ultimately led to the premature deaths of the two lovers. At the Ca

For, by you leaves, you shall not stay alone

Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow,

(Act 1, Scene 5, lines 138-141, pg 71)

Prodigious birth of love it is to me

By one that I'll procure to come to thee,

The very next day Romeo and Juliet were married in secret to prevent another fight erupting between the Capulet and Montague families. This in my mind was not such a good idea because then they didn't know about it so they wanted Paris to marry Juliet. If they had known about Romeo and Juliet then I'm sure that they wouldn't have forced the two to get married. Even if they didn't approve. That way at least they would have known about it. Friar Lawrence then married the couple:

If this story has taught us anything, it would be that you must not act in haste, particularly when your emotions determine your actions. Thinking things through and seeking help is the ultimate choice when making any decision as well as talking it through with different people. Then you can see all of the sides to the story. If they had done this then they would have lived happily ever after. If you act without thinking and don't communicate, and make a decision in haste like Romeo and Juliet did, then you might see that it might not be the best choice to make. It could lead to unpredictable and undesired consequences like what happened in their tragic story.
