The Bluest Eyes

Pecola Breedlove is a twelve-year-old girl who is considered to be ugly and is traumatized by it. Throughout her life she searches for blue eyes because she thinks that she is able to obtain blue eyes she will be able to obtain beauty and therefore social acceptance. Pecola has no friends other then Claudia and Frieda and she is ridiculed by the other kids around town. She is abused by mostly everyone she comes in contact with and she is effected emotionally. Pecola never fights back because she does not have the inner strength for it so therefore she is always the victim. She lives in a society that says beauty is good and ugliness is bad, and without reassurance from her family right in the beginning her self-image of herself is extremely poor. Pecola is ostracized and rejected throughout her entire life and mostly due to her lack of beauty. She is rejected by her mother, the kids in her town, and eventually by society.

Pecola Breedlove is rejected by her own flesh and blood, her mother. Pauline Breedlove has been rejected by society herself because at an early age she had stepped on a nail and so whenever she walked her foot flopped, but she takes out on her own rejecting by rejecting her daughter.
