Depression is a very real problem for women in the United States. Women are about twice as likely to get depressed as men. Most people do not realize the very real effects that come from depression and the treatments for it. Women who are depressed often seek professional help from a psychiatrist who will prescribe drugs such as antidepressant, muscle relaxers, and sleeping pills. Professional help is always a good idea when people feel that they have nowhere else to turn to. However, a lot of the time the drugs use is not carefully monitored and people begin to abuse the drugs that they are prescribed and everyone thinks it is normal. Women who have children and become addicted to these drugs are not always thinking of how it will affect their children. However, the children are the most affected ones when their mom has this problem.

When a child finds out that their mom has a drug problem they often don't understand what is going on and who is to blame for it. I can remember my best friend saying "this is my fault" or "I drove her to this point. " Nothing that anyone said could change her mind so she kept blaming herself for her mom suddenly being so out of control. She always felt like she was a horrible daughter because her mom was a pill addict and her mom was so high all of the time she didn't even realize what her problem was doing to her daughter. My friend felt like she could never measure up to the daughter that her mom had wanted her to be. She also felt that she was never good enough, and that is what caused her mother's depression.
