The main purpose of this paper is to show the reader the most important points in Douglass' journey to freedom. How a slave became a human being? To prove to the reader the realizations that Douglas encountered during his slave years.

The beginning of Douglass' realizations about slavery was his departure from Colonel Lloyd's plantation. " Going to live in Baltimore laid the foundation, and opened the gateway, to all, my subsequent prosperity. I have ever regarded it as the first plain manifestation of that kind providence which has ever attended me, and marked my life with so many favors" (Douglas18). He never lost site of the horrible happenings of slavery but in this situation he became anxious to find out what is going to happen next. He was chosen out of the many slaves.
