Shatter your goals
There's just something about high sports. I'm not sure if it's the pride, the rush of them, or just the hometown fame you gain. What I will never forget about high school sports is a Powerlifting coach I had my junior and senior year. See high school sports not only allow students to have fun, but it also teaches students responsibility. It molds students to a outstanding class of citizens. Brownfield, Texas is a small town in the south part of the Panhandle. It has one high school, which is a 3-A high school with about six hundred students. The faculty at BHS has always cared about the students there, and vise-versa. It was half way though my junior year, and it was our schools first year to have powerlifting. It was strange to most of us, because we have never heard of this sport. We really didn't understand the whole concept of it. I remember the first powerlifting meeting. We all met after off season the first Monday back from Christmas break. Coach H, The AD/Head Football Coach gave us a small speech and then introduced us to our new Powerlifting coach. He said "Men and women, I would like you to meet coach N the head powerlifting coach." The first words out of coach N's Mouth were "we're going to work
hard , and were going to get strong." I Knew some how by the tone of his voice, that this a very serious statement. Hard work is just what we needed for the athletic program. It's been awhile since we've had any kind of work. As the weeks went on I started to bulk up. I was absolutely loving powerlifting, and I owed it all to coach. He was the kind of coach who knew how to encourage and motivate you to work harder. He was also the kind of coach who cared about everyone on the team, he didn't want anybody to fail, get in trouble, or cause problems. When my senior powerlifting season rolled around, the whole team was a bunch of animals. It was an exciting year, we were bringing home team medals and everyone was getting individual medals. I won three consecutive outstanding lifter awards. I also won Region by a total of one thousand, three hundred and seventy pounds. I made it to the state powerlifting meet at Texas Christen University, where i placed eighth in the state of Texas. As the end of my junior year grew near, coach and I bonded. We become good friends, in fact most of the team did too. Our first year of powerlifting we did great for a first year team. There was still a long ways to go, so at the end of the year coach had one thing to say to us. "Work hard during the summer
