In the play Othello by William Shakespeare the character Iago is motivated by prejudice, which is a key factor that results in his downfall. Iago's loses trust from his friends at the end of the play due to his lies, which are said because he is prejudice and jealous. Iago is prejudice towards Othello since he is a Moor, but only expresses his prejudice when he is around people other that Othello. Iago goes from being second in command and trustworthy among his friends to nothing because of his character flaw.
Since Iago has such hatred and prejudice towards Othello it makes him go out of his way to make sure his life is ruined. In order to accomplish this Iago lies to people about Othello and instigates fights towards him. When Iago is talking to Brabantio he tries to put ideas into Brabantio's head
These lies and ideas that he tells Brabantio and others lead to his downfall. All the lies that he tells in the end gets back to him, so all of his trust from others goes down the drain and he amounts to nothing. If he would have never said any lies or prejudice comments to anyone about Othello nothing would have come back to him. If nothing came back to him and nothing happened he would have stayed second in command, and would have stayed trustworthy in the minds of everyone else.
