Degradation

A detailed Summary of Degradation

In our present culture, we (and when I say "we", I am referring to the majority of society) think we know about a person's background after a couple of simple facts; and what we don't know, we automatically assume based upon stereotypes and limited interaction with few people who share the same traits. In reality, we're nothing more than charlatans. The constant desire to know anything and everything about another person in today's society is absolutely perplexing. If a person is of a different race, ethnic background, social class, and so on, we immediately form an idea of what their customs, rituals, folkways, mores, standard of living, or religious beliefs. It happens in all different areas of American life-almost as if it's unavoidable.

In politics, have you ever noticed how we are so eager to slap a label based on a few of a candidate's views? That's right-Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Independent, etc. When it comes to election time, some people don't even take into account what a person says they will do while in office, rather they just vote for the party they feel they are a part of. It's like the political label is an easy-way-out decision, so the voter doesn't have to actually take time to analyze

other politician's thoughts and views-no no, that would be too strenuous. That's where I think the idea of an assumptive world came from in the first place-outright laziness. It seems that no one wants to take the time to get to know someone else better nowadays. We seem to catch a few quick facts, and them form the rest of the opinion ourselves (it may seem repetitive, but I'm simply showing consistency in more specified fields so it's not like I'm just pulling a general statement from my ass.) We are lazy, stubborn, and ignorant to reality because in today's world, we think everyone is the same, that there are no exceptions to ANY rule--that everything is black and white--no gray area. Moving on, race is without a doubt the most commonly falsely projection of our minds. We look back to history books and read about what life was like for both our race and of another's. We then read how when the two came together, how both races changed, and, from this, we think we have a good grasp on how they are living hundreds of years later. Sadly, some members of a certain group (for example, white supremacists, KKK members, black panthers, and Nazis) think that other races are the reasons for downfalls in their own race, and feel they have to lash out. If anything, its idiots like those that cause racial disputes--not members of the other race. They weren't looking for a problem, but because some moron in a white pointy hat who thinks he's above them decides to start throwing firebombs at them, then outrage ensues and riots break out. Then his idiot friends who dress up like Casper thinking that every day of the year is Halloween feel they have to march through cities and towns, looking to start up commotion. They won't attack first, but when a black person is angry at them and throws a brick at them (which, even though I'm not a supporter of violence, I cheer when I hear that happens), they point their fingers, saying, "Look! They're the ones that started it!" Apparently someone doesn't know the definition of instigat
