The purpose of this lab was to investigate and determine the mass, the amount of matter in an object, the volume, the amount of space an object occupies and calculate the density or the mass per unit volume of a material. If two of the materials, water and alcohol are compared then alcohol will have the higher density. If the regular shaped object densities are compared then corean will have the higher density. If the irregular objects are compared then the marble will have the higher density.
In this investigation the materials used were as follows:
The first part of the actual procedure was to measure the density of water and rubbing alcohol by obtaining a beaker, a larg
Lastly you measure the density of the irregular shaped solids by obtaining a marble, rubber stopper, and a 50mL-graduated cylinder from the supply table. First measure the mass of the marble and stopper using a triple-beam balance and record data. Next place 40mL of water in the cylinder and drop the marble in the cylinder and record how high the water level increases on the graduated cylinder and record this as the volume. Then repeat the steps for the rubber stopper and calculate the 2 densities.
Secondly you measure the density of the wood and corean blocks by getting the supplies, the wood block, corean block and a metric ruler from the supply table. Then you measure the mass of each block using the triple-beam balance and record on table 2. After measuring, you calculate the volume of each block by measuring the length, width, and height in centimeters and record information on t
