Maudie Vs Alexandra

The differentiation in several people's character is what turns a good book into a great book. Although it may seem that Miss Maudie and Aunt Alexandra have nothing in common besides the Ladies Missionary Society that is not completely factual. Both have many of the same perspectives and qualities in common. The contrasts and comparisons of these to characters assists the reader by placing letting the reader know them individually, and helps by placing them into Maycomb Society.

From the very beginning of the book we are introduced to Miss Maudie the watchful, caring, concerned neighbor. Miss Maudie is and women younger or about the same age as Atticus, who feels that time spent inside is time that is wasted. Although there are many characters in the book that do have some of the same traits in common it is their differences that make them unique. Aunt Alexandra and Miss Maudie is one of these sets of characters. Maybe throwing both of these things into the book is what makes it into a great book.

Alexandra comes into the book about mid way and from the very beginning we see that the most important thing to her is letting the kids and everyone else in the town know that they are "the Finches" and that stands for something. Even though Jem and Scout have respect for aunt Alexandra it is not the same kind they have for Miss Maudie they only respect Alexandra because Atticus make them. She talks to the kids like they are "slow" children and shows them no signs of respect or understanding. She never takes time to explain things to them like Miss Maudie and Atticus do, she is the typica
