Queen Elizabeth 1

Elizabeth I was the queen of England from 1558 to 1603. During this time she made many great changes for England. She never married and ruled England by her self. Many people look upon her as the greatest queen in England of all time. The people of England had great respect for her and she had respect for the people.

Elizabeth I was born at Greenwich Palace on September 7, 1533. She was the daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn the second of his six wives. Before Elizabeth reached her third birthday her mother was beheaded on charges of adultery and treason. King Henry paid little attention to her and moved Elizabeth to a house in the country. Elizabeth was provided with excellent tutors and loved learning. She learned to speak five different languages including Greek, Latin, French, and Italian. Queen Mary suspected Elizabeth of helping plot the uprising. Elizabeth spent two months in jail while and investigation was held. No evidence of Elizabeth committing a crime was found. Queen Mary died in 1558 and Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth.

Elizabeth's cousin, Queen Mary of Scotland was forced to leave her throne as queen in 1567 and fled to England. Queen Mary was Catholic and many heirs to the throne. Many thought she would try to replace Elizabeth. Queen Elizabeth kept her a prisoner for nineteen years. Parliament demanded her execution, and Elizabeth signed the warrant. She was beheaded in 1587.
