“Why was it Necessary For Phineas To Die?”In A Separate Peace, there were two main characters: Gene and Phineas. Phineas was a fun loving soul, who didn’t like to follow the rules. While Gene was a hard working, good student, who did almost everything Phineas said to. Gene began to have thoughts that Phineas was out to get him, to sabotage his grades. Phineas was not good in school at all, so Gene thought Phineas was trying to “take Gene down with him”. In the beginning Phineas and Gene jumped out of this tree into the river. But before they jumped Gene almost fell, until Phineas reached out and caught him. They were the youngest boys ever to attempt this. Gene and Phineas were at the age of 16. People called the tree jump a test to enlist into the army. After this jump Phineas decided to form “The Suicide Society of the Summer Session”.
