Abortion: Pro-life
An abortion is a procedure in which an embryo or fetus (child) is prohibited from developing by artificial means, usually occurring before the 20th week of development. One could argue that this is next to murder. In most religions oppose abortion and it's practice. The Bible states "thou shalt not kill" abortion is a direct violation of this. Hinduism claims that at the time of conception the soul enters the embryo or child, hence abortion should be outlawed. Buddhism claims that abortion is "murdering." Islam considers abortion as a moral crime and sees life as the jurisdiction of God; their laws state that abortion is illegal except in situations in which the woman's life is in jeopardy. The fetus has it's own genetics from the combination of his mother and father, it's organs and blood supply, and has developed organs and appendages by the 4th week, the rest of the time they are just maturing. The child is a "potential" human being. Thus, the child has potential to be a NFL star, congressmen, social worker, teacher, or the doctor who discovers the cure for AIDS or cancer. By the 5th week, the child has a developed cerebral cortex, the part of the brain that allows us to move, think, speak, and plan. The child can b
Cost of a child is also a concern when considering abortion. There are many non-profit organizations that provide free pregnancy testing, financial aide, free used maternity and baby cloths, and rattles, bottles and bibs as well. An abortion can cost up to $400 not including the pregnancy test, anesthesia for the abortion procedure, post abortion check-up, possible treatment needed for infection, and possibly post-abortion counseling. There are also many side effects that can harm the mother when having and abortion. Infection is the main concern in abortion and hemorrhaging and uterine perforation are the main causes of that. In hemorrhaging, a blood transfusion is needed at a 100:1 ratio. However there are approximately 1,600,000 abortions annually in the United states, this means that 16,000 women were transfused (Amer. Assn. Blood Banks and Amer. Red Cross, Circular Information, 1984 p6). Viral hepatitis is transmitted in up to 10% of transfused patients, that's 1,600. An analysis shows that of 300,000 cases of deaths caused by hepatitis, 322 occur from acute disease, 5100 from cirrhosis, and 1200 from liver cancer (Am. Med. News, Oct.13, '89 p.2). This mortality rate is over 2
