Skiing vs. Snowboarding

When a person is asked the question, what's the difference between skiing and snowboarding? They might answer with a simple statement such as, nothing really, or they may respond with, wow! There is such and difference, how can I even begin to explain. Skiing and snowboarding have their differences and similarities to compare. There are few arguments with people on their own views towards which sport is better and worth your time. Snowboarding and skiing are both fun and exciting hobbies to get involved with and it's a great way to spend a weekend in the mountains. Whether one might snowboard or ski, there are different characteristics and personalities that are included with taking up one particular choice.

Let's begin with skiing. First off, skiing is an activity that involves strength and energy. It's a fairly easy sport to get the hang of however. The first time I went skiing, I started out on the 'bunny slopes' and I had an instructor for the first half of the day. It was nice to have an instructor because it taught me quickly and in a professional matter on how to actually ski. Then I had the second half of the day to experiment by myself, without the instructor near by. With skiing, you have the basics that you

Snowboarding has its ups and downs as well. With this sport, you need to have a lot of patience, strength and energy. The first time I snowboarded, I didn't want to ever set foot on a snowboard again for the rest of my life. I personally think that it is more difficult learning how to snowboard versus learning how to ski. With snowboarding you need to have a great amount of patience and balance because it's most likely that the first time you go, you will spend it on the ground; or at least I did. One of the differences between skiing and snowboarding is that when you ski an advantage is having poles to hoist you up when you fall, however, when snowboarding; you just have your arms and hands to get you up off the ground. At times it's frustrating and tiring to lift yourself up continuously. Having the balance to stay up is hard to have also. It is discouraging at times to know that your feet are strapped one in front of another when boarding. Your natural instincts may be to slip your other foot out to catch yourself if you are about to fall, but when boarding, there is nothing to do except to keep practicing on your balance to stay on your feet.

need to learn. For example; staying upright is a good accomplishment to achieve. Keeping your balance is another step to include, but most importantly...don't cross your skis when stopping, also known as snowplowing. If your skis accidentally cross, the next thing that you will have is snow jammed up your nose and mouth. Who knows, you may enjoy it though!

When surveyed, out of the two, skiing is easier to get the hang of. Since snowboarding usually takes longer to understand and accomplish, many people might say that they would prefer skiing over snowboarding. There however are conflicts with that answer. There are those who think snowboarding is well worth it and more of a challenge to experience. Of course, you will get the variety of people who would prefer a chall
