The plot of "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall," by Katherine Anne Porter, is technically of a death-stricken woman lying in bed. Peyton takes the last moment of his life to reflect on what is important to him. Through the plot of the story Bierce explicates the wisdom of a dying man given through the victim's point of view. In doing so, Bierce conveys how precious life is.
