Southern Expressions

Certainly all regions of America have their own particular expressions that are identifiable with a certain area and its people. These expressions are handed down from generation to generation. To individuals who are not familiar with the language of the area, it might appear that the "natives" are speaking a foreign language. The South is full of its own peculiar expressions. With the slow-talking, easy-going twang most native southerners have acquired, people visiting or relocating to this region are often confused as to what locals are actually saying.

Being a natural born southerner, I've never really thought what it must be like to visit our region. At first visit, it would appear that everyone is always "fixin' to do" something. A visitor to the area would think that southerners have a lot of broken items. They are fixin' to do this and fixin' to do that. Truth is, in fact, usually they are not fixing anything at all. "I'm fixin' to," is simply a Southern expression stating that someone is preparing to do something in partic
