What is the American Dream, and how can one obtain this dream? Obviously, every American will have a different dream and will have different obstacles in achieving their goal. In F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby desperately wants to reach his dream and will do anything to get it. When Gatsby was in the Army and carried the name of James Gatz, he fell in love with a lady named Daisy.
