Socrates In The New Millenium

A detailed Summary of Socrates In The New Millenium

Our society has entered the next chapter of technological advancement. Scientists combined the technological feats of cloning and stem cell research to recreate the world's most influential human being, Socrates. The world's best psychologists, scientists, and philosophers have together tried to recreate the best environment so his mind could flourish and return to its state at which it was over three thousand years ago.

Today Socrates just turned twenty years old. He has been married for three years (his wife too has been cloned) and he has a two year old son. Socrates achieved many of the same philosophical revelations today that he did over three thousand years ago.

As Socrates walks down the crowded streets of New York City, a five foot radius of people constantly surround him. Not because people wish to follow him all over hearing what he has to say, but because he smells so horridly. Our scientists have done such an excellent job recreating his original environment he even adopted his old habits. He rarely showers. Even the scientists who converse with him are troubled by sitting so close to him. They constantly dry heave and gag from his putrid smell. They feared that if they forced Socrates to shower this

Next, he found his way to the NYU campus. Here he could undoubtedly find some intelligent people. He found his way to the philosophy department, and walked in the first open door he found. It was that of Professor Richard Sizemore. He politely asked if he could come in. The professor greeted him warmly and asked him to take a seat. Socrates asked, "Mr. Sizemore, may I ask you a question that has been troubling me?" Finally realizing that it was Socrates, by his foul stench, the professor enthusiastically responded, "Of course!" Socrates fired the question, "If you had been wrongly imprisoned, and had the opportunity to escape in a way that your life would not be in danger, would you escape?" The professor thought long and hard about the question. After about ten minutes of contemplation the professor answered, "No. I have been imprisoned according to the laws of justice. Escaping from jail would lead to the detriment of the justice system. Therefore I would stay imprisoned." Socrates was so overjoyed at this answer that he jumped out of the chair, quickly shook the professor's hand, thanked him, and ran out of the building screaming in happiness. He couldn't believe that a society that had done so many horrible things could be capable of such excellent moral choices. Not wanting to ruin his excitement, he went straight home. He was so happy he told his wife about his excellent day, which was extremely rare for Socrates to do. The scientists came over to talk to Socrates about his day. They too were overjoyed that Socrates was accepting modern society well. He could barely contain himself. Socrates went to bed extremely happy that night. He had the perfect day.

Socrates was now curious to see what other atrocities were being committed in this time. He figured the best place to find information would be the New York City Public Library. Upon arriving he was astounded at the volumes of books the library contained. Without any idea where to begin he approached the librarian at the front desk, "I am sorry to trouble you, but I need to find a book with a comprehensive history of the world." The librarian smirked and keenly responded, "If you go up two levels, on your left there will be a book entitled A Brief History of the World. That will definitely be what you are looking for." Socrates graciously thanked her, and raced upstairs to dive into this book to see what he missed in the last three thousand years.

The next day Socrates wanted to try his hand at walking the streets of New York again. But first he would try to step in modern times. He went to the post office and got his mail. He received almost four dozen letters. People such as Oprah Winfrey, Sally Jesse Raphael, Larry King, and Howard Stern were begging for interviews. He also received advertisement offers from Nike, Pepsi-Cola, Hanes, and even Dial soap. The truth about his existence had undoubtedly been announced.

They started out on Wall Street, a place of great commerce and interaction. This was the best place to start, as some of the smartest people in New York pass through here everyday. The first person Socrates sto
