This is an exciting and heartfelt adventure story that takes you through fouranimal’s wild everyday lives. Everyday in the story something new and exciting happens which makes this book a joy to read. Badger, Ratty, and Mole must deal with the rowdy and rambunctious Toad, who is always getting into trouble with his fascinations of the latest animal “fads”. It is incredibly entertaining and interesting to read this book because it is about animals who act and carry-on just like real people. This technique, used by Kenneth Graham to bring depth and realism to the story, is known as personification. The author does a fantastic job describing and defining each character’s very strong and very different personality in this way. All the characters change drastically throughout the book as they grow, mature, and learn from each other as they spend their days together. This is why they are all round characters. Everyday, the mood of the world in which the animals live in is one of great joy and happiness.
