Five Percenters
As a teenager, I was very easily influenced. My eclectic mind made it easier for me to open up and a lot of different kinds of people. This was very important to me because I learned from experience to respect other people and their beliefs. The first time it was put to test is when I met my long time friend Coran. He is what is known to be a “five percenter”. My “cousin”, or friend, would tell me about how he looked at life through the study of science and math. At first I was a little skeptical, but after listening and seeing the reasoning I realized that it made sense. I was so deeply intrigued by the faith that I began to study it. On my birthday Coran decided to give me a name, which is Kamara-Rose, which means perfect and poised woman. The more I read about the faith the more I began to realize where it stemmed from. The faith, which is referred to as The Nation of Gods and Earths, is a branch off of the Islamic and Christian faith. The Nation of Gods and Earths is very similar to the orthodox Nation of Islam. The Nation of Gods and Earths, more commonly called “five percenters” or “god bodies” are more of an urban, American tradition.
