Five Percenters
As a teenager, I was very easily influenced. My eclectic mind made it easier for me to open up and a lot of different kinds of people. This was very important to me because I learned from experience to respect other people and their beliefs. The first time it was put to test is when I met my long time friend Coran. He is what is known to be a "five percenter". My "cousin", or friend, would tell me about how he looked at life through the study of science and math. At first I was a little skeptical, but after listening and seeing the reasoning I realized that it made sense. I was so deeply intrigued by the faith that I began to study it. On my birthday Coran decided to give me a name, which is Kamara-Rose, which means perfect and poised woman. The more I read about the faith the more I began to realize where it stemmed from. The faith, which is referred to as The Nation of Gods and Earths, is a branch off of the Islamic and Christian faith. The Nation of Gods and Earths is very similar to the orthodox Nation of Islam. The Nation of Gods and Earths, more commonly called "five percenters" or "god bodies" are more of an urban, American tradition. Although, they believe in evolution they still believe in the Old Testament of the Bible. The "god bodies" are constantly searching for answers to any question they might have about life and why things happen the way they do. They constantly reference the Bible and the Qu'ran, but it only pushes them closer to math and science because the Holy Books have stories and not logic. They believe that men can't do things that are depicted in the holy books. For example, Sodom and Gomorrah the biblical story of Lot's wife. When God went to destroy the city he said don't look back and Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. (Genesis 19:26). made up of 90% water, the clouds are our thoughts and they come and go. But nothing is more important than Allah, so when you take care of your earth your godliness will remain pure and so will your love." (Romans 2002). In the Nation, they rely on primarily in science and math to explain life and why things are the way they are. The "god body" believes in a Supreme Being, but unlike Muslims, they do not believe that a Supreme Being created us. Instead "god bodies" believe that life started through means of evolution. They believe that everything started from a cell, and evolved into the world we know today. The mathematics is also a simple Malcolm convert to Islam. Although, Mohammad was a teacher from the Nation of Islam, when he brought the faith to America I was so diluted that a lot of traditions changed completely.
