Have you ever come across a TV program which shows 13 year old girls who look like they're at least 20? Most young girls these days try so hard to appear older and more "sophisticated." For instance, some of the students in my sister's fifth grade class are much taller than I am and will ever be, as well as looking much older than I do. These are the types of girls who are the very cause of the so-called "whore wars"-students who continue to "grow up" rapidly, although they have no need to do so. They are the tweens, or children between middle childhood and adolescence, who have made a statement by appearing and acting at least 3 or 4 years older than their actual age.

In order to solve the problem at hand, we must first realize that this may be one of the biggest problems that will most significantly impact our posterity. We must then realize that something does definitely need to be done in order to rid ourselves of this debate. The tweens and teenagers involved must feel more secure about themselves and feeling comfortable in acting more like their own age.

What exactly is causing children to act in such a way these days, and how does that affect society as a whole? Most of it is caused by the marketers who focus on doing better than their competitors rather than thinking about how much damage they are doing. This explains why at the mall, all the stores tailored to teenage girls sell exactly the same type of provocative clothing. Their clothes are so similar that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference if they did not have tags. The media also plays an enormous role in the lives of young girls in America. Celebrities are revered and honored for their ability to flaunt themselves with no reserve. Christina Aguilera, for example, just release a new music video called "Dirrty", and the only apparent point is to sexualize her.

Tweens are also dealing with pressures and choices usually associated with teenagers, such as sex, drugs, and alcohol. Part of this is due to children having puberty earlier than used to be the case but still not being emotionally and mentally developed enough to be able to deal with all the problems that teenagers normally go through.
