Personal Narrative
"Fate works in mysterious ways and everything happens for a reason." For the past two summers previous to this past summer, Michelle had attended orchestra tours that went to both Europe and China. These tours have always been what she looked forward to during the school year and so she decided to attend yet another tour for her upcoming summer. The tour was scheduled to go across Canada and all of her friends had signed up to attend it so Michelle was psyched. The tour turned out to be unsuccessful in gathering many people to sign up because numerous people were still afraid to travel after September 11th. The director of the tour tried to keep congregating people to enroll for the summer tour, but he was not capable of getting enough people, and unavoidably, the tour was canceled. Michelle was utterly disappointed and immediately gave up and figured that her summer was ruined. She figured she would just stay home and sulk in her misery until the summer came to an end. "Everything happens for a reason", Michele's mom told her. "There was a reason why you weren't supposed to go on this tour", she assured her daughter. "Everything happens for a reason and fate works in mysterious ways. Don't ever look something over because it doesn't seem important to you at the time...and don't ever give up if something gets you down...look for the rainbow and I guarantee you will find the end," says Michelle. "I believe God has a plan for us in life, and the ways in which we figure out this plan is different for every person...just always remember...everything happens for a reason..." As the week progressed, Michelle found herself to be a natural at filmmaking. She had already learned all about the camera, and even directed her first movie. Michelle was having a blast and couldn't believe that she was ever worried about not liking this program. Her thoughts shifted back and forth making her realize that her old faith in fate was right...everything does happen for a reason. Her experience in Florida was turning out to have completely changed her life. Before Michelle had left her home in New York, she had wanted to study Mathematics in college and possibly become a teacher. After experiencing this film program, Michelle was sure that film was her course in life now. When she woke up she would think about film, during the day she would imagine possible story ideas, and at night she would reflect of what a great day she had filming. As summer came to an end, Michelle got ready to leave for Florida. It was upsetting to leave all of her friends back home and to go to a place that was unfamiliar and foreign to her. As Michelle got on the plane, she kept telling herself "everything happens for a reason...so don't be worried."
