The actions of Robspeirre in the Enlightenment
I believe that the statements and actions of Robespierre are a departure from the ideas of the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment. In my opinion the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment were a time where science and curiosity flourished. The Scientific Revolution drastically changed humanity’s course. The Enlightenment weakened its hold of superstition on people and encouraged them to think of new ways to do things. Robespierre is an opposite of this view point considering during the Reign of Terror curiosity ultimately killed the cat. “All that is required for this enlightenment is freedom; and particularly the least harmful of all that may be called freedom, namely, the freedom for man to make public use of his reason in all matters. {3, Kant, 55} Enlightenment thinkers had many ideas that included encouragement of the spread of reason, and human rights such as freedom of the press. The spread of reason was in hopes to bring a difference to the lives of the people around the world.
