A detailed Summary of Abortion

There are two views on abortions. The pro-lifer's believe that an abortion at any time is wrong. The pro-choice's think that a woman should have the choice to abort the fetus before it becomes conscious. I am a strong believer in pro-life. I feel that an abortion of any kind is murder and should be treated as such. Just because the fetus is not born yet does not mean that it does not have just as many rights as a full grown human would have. In the Scott, Foresman Advanced Dictionary, Thorndike and Barnhart define abortion as "the removal of a developing embryo or fetus from the uterus to terminate a pregnancy before the birth, resulting in death of the fetus." Since 1973, when abortion was legalized, 1.6 million abortions per year have been induced. That is over 30 million total in only 29 years. Hitler is said to have killed 6 million Jews. I feel that by allowing abortions, we are putting a lesser value on life. We are telling people that it is alright to take a human life. There is not one good thig that comes from abortion. Before I wrote this paper, I disagreed with abortions. After writing this paper, I feel more strongly about it than ever. Who knows, one of those 30 million babies that we killed my have grown up to revolutionize the world by curing cancer. We never gave them a chance.

On the other end of the argument is the pro-choicers. They believe that the abortion of a baby is alright in certain circumstances. They argue that the fetus is not conscious so it is alright to abort it. I totally disagree with this statement. It brings questions like; what about a person who is sleeping? Or a person that is in a coma? Is it alright to kill them because they are not conscious? Of corse not, it is no more moral to kill a fetus than it is to kill a sleeping man or woman. Pro-choicers believe that by giving women the option of having an abortion, they can reduce unwanted pregnancies. Therefore, reducing child abuse and neglect. They could not be any farther from the truth. Since the legalization of abortion, child abuse has gone up 500 percent. From 1986- 1993, physical neglect has gone up 102 percent and emotional neglect has gone up 333 percent. These statistics prove that their theory is wrong.
