A woman thought that her husband was dead because he didn't come home on time. Many wives fear this after a couple of weeks or months of marriage. This theme is illustrated in "The Story of An Hour". This object was given to him before he went to war by his love, in which he has a memory of her putting it around his neck. This resembled both of them as one and being together forever. But it wasn't till long when the enemy came up and wiped this tiny army out. His girlfriend knew what happened later on and gets really sad and whished he comes back. When she was able to see his dead body the author writes "She gazed at him with eyes that were full of supplication and a certain terror of joy"(5). This is a type of quote that was also in her story "The Story of An Hour" with a certain type of joy that is not pleasure. This quote can mean that she was a bit confused about herself.
