Every short story teaches a person what it is about and how it relates to real life. This is the definition of a theme which is mainly the subject of the text in the story. The idea of each story is to educate the reader more about life and what the dangers are to be aware of. It states arguments out in tiny tales which makes sense to the reader. A short story author, Kate Chopin, demonstrates how the subject matter relates to real life throughout her novellas. A couple of her stories are “The Story of An Hour”, “The Locket” and “A Pair of Silk Stockings”. All the stories she wrote made sense to the outside world for the reader to understand what the awareness of life is. A woman thought that her husband was dead because he didn’t come home on time. Many wives fear this after a couple of weeks or months of marriage. This theme is illustrated in “The Story of An Hour”. In this story, a man enters a woman’s house and tells her that her husband (his brother) died in an accident. The woman gets really frightened and abruptly her husband shows up, so she gets shocked and quickly falls to the ground and dies.
