In the 60’s, America was filled with racism and segregation. There were two main civil rights leaders for the blacks, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King. But in a time of violent actions Malcolm X’s philosophies made the most sense because he encouraged the blacks to fight back against discrimination, build black communities, and segregate schools to give blacks better educations. Malcolm X supported the use of violence as a form of protest and self-defense. Blacks had been experiencing violence for hundreds of years, and had always been taught to be nonviolent. Malcolm X was the one who told blacks to use violence of violence is upon them. He hated the fact that blacks were supposed to be the ones who were nonviolent, while white supremacist groups such as the KKK go around lynching and killing blacks for hundreds of years. On January 18, 1965, Malcolm X was interviewed for The Young Socialist.
