In the poem Aristotle's rhetoric logos addresses the bas

Pathos refers to the emotions and feelings of the writer expressed in his poem; the first stanza sets the scene. The soldiers are limping back from the front, an appalling picture expressed through smile. Such is the men's wretched condition that they can be compared to "old beggars under sacks" (1). "Men marched asleep" (5) barely awake from lack of sleep, they cannot walk straight as their blood-caked feet try to negotiate the mud (6).

The last rhetorical appeal is ethos, which is referred to perception of character, credibility and the tone (optimistic, sarcastic, etc.) of the writer. I think in his poem he act as a very strong man with a strong character and lot of courage even if he was not very happy being in the war watching the terrible moments of cruelty. His tone is pretty much on disagreement on the war because he believes that nobody should be dieing on that terrible way.
