Try to Praise The Mutilated World
In the beginning, God created heaven and earth. When He created Adam and Eve they sinned, this began the imperfect world today. This sin altered the world and represents the mutilated state portrayed in Adam Zagajewski's poem, Try to Praise the Mutilated World. One must learn to accept (or praise) the faults of the world. The remembrance of someone's death comes to mind when reading the poem. The world symbolizes the state of an individual after a death has happened to someone close to them. Zagajewski uses repetition with the phrase, "praise the mutilated world"; additionally, each time the phrase is said, it means something completely different. of strawberry wine as the dew settles in. An image, exposed through and organic metaphor, of this person appears to be mean and orderly with the methodically overgrown nettles. Line 5 symbolizes the abandoned homes of exiles meaning that this person had bad marriages and their loved ones had left him/her. In lines 2 and 3, Zagajewski uses upbeat words to illustrate what the speaker did with this individual. The description of the individual is portrayed in lines 4 and 5 with negative words. Adam reinforces that the world hasn't changed as he returns to reality in line 18. A Gray thrush, meaning a small gray bird, has passed on. The bird, itself, corresponds to the soul of the individual and is also the carrier of the soul. The gray image being portrayed symbolizes someone who is old. The light that "strays and vanishes/ and returns" (20,21) symbolizes the soul on the boarder-line to heaven or hell. Adam Zagajewski's poem is portrayed as someone who has died. Fate is a random event, no one can predict what will it do and when will it occu
