Home is Familiar
A definition of home has no correct answer. Each individual's meaning is different. I associate home with feelings of comfort, security, and love. This is derived from my wonderful family, protection I feel at home, and love that is always present no matter how bad things seem. Webster's Dictionary defines home as "a place where we live, a place of residence." However, this is a better definition for a house, while home is what's on the inside. If you don't have family, you don't have home. Feelings of fear, and troublesome problems are mainly dealt with in home. I feel protected from unknown things in the world because home is familiar to me. Certain elements of home make up what it is to me. These include the importance of family, friends, and peers. Of course, there are trivial items too including my room, my big bed, and my family's beautiful home entertainment center. Is it possible to call more than one place home? I feel this question takes on a little contradiction, yet it is possible to have more than one home. The contradiction is present because home brings about family, friends, and childhood memories. In a new environment, none of these are present so how could it possibly be called home? Well, it all really comes down to being comfortable. This is no simple task by any means. I've lived here at UTA for one month now and still don't feel that sense of home as I did in Cherry Hill, NJ. However, one month is not enough time at all. It will take many months until I feel completely in my "comfort zone" here in Arlington, TX. Elements in helping this are meeting new friends, developing new everyday routines, and searching for a different kind of love other than family. All these tasks, while they don't seem familiar to me, are always going to come with age. I look at my situation with a positive attitude, ready to always have fun.
