Dr. Mengele

"...When we stepped off the trains, we could hear soldiers yelling, 'Men on one side, women on the other side.' Some German SS guards were also shouting, 'We want twins-bring us twins!' "Dr. Josef Mengele was making the selections. He stood there, tall nice-looking, and he was dressed very well, as if he wanted to make a good impression...." (Lagnado and Dekel 31) It has been proven to say that around eleven million total were killed during the Holocaust, six million killed were Jewish (Dunnigan and Nofi 48), 1.25 million people were executed at Auschwitz (Wigoder, The Holocaust: Family 176), and 2,840 twins were put to their death beds by Dr. Josef Mengele (Lagnado and Dekel cover). Today we can see the Holocaust only as a nightmare, bot for those actually there, they lived that nightmare. In Auschwitz alone, 1.25 million people were executed bu either the crematorium, the gas chambers, or they were used as human guinea pigs by none other than the famous "Angel of Death" himself, Dr. Josef Mengele (Lagnado and Dekel 32). The man was pure evil with an instinctive intention to kill. Dr. Josef Mengele was one of the most feared medical doctors of World War II.

It was not until 1934, the Dr. Mengele

Dr. Josef Mengele was a cruel and evil man. In his mind he thought that he was advancing scientific studies, but he was really slowly killing off millions of people at a time without the slightest sign of sympathy. Dr. Mengele loved the twins, but then he chopped them up into pieces and purposely killed them, it doesn't make any sense at all. The world has such insufficient evidence on Dr. Mengele and somehow the most powerful people on this earth can go to extreme measures t hurt people, but then in the end they still never get caught. After the war, Dr. Josef Mengele fled from th scene to somewhere in South America and to this day things have been said, but no one has ever found the famous "Angel of Death", Dr. Josef Mengele. "Did Mengele see something of himself in the children that he killed, innocent and doomed, and for what symbol, after all, of Mengele's won dual nature-the angel and the monster, the gentle young doctor and the sadistic killer-than a twin." (Lagnado and Dekel 32, 147)

they would conduct routine blood tests and x-rays. In another laboratory, was where he would perform his deathly and difficult operations, and the final laboratory was where Dr. Mengele's assistants would perform autopsies on the bodies of the dead twins (Lagnado and Dekel 62). The blood tests were the basic component of Dr. Mengele's program. The twins were subjected to daily withdrawals of approximately ten cubic centimeters of blood. Blood was drawn from the arms and the fingers, but for the younger children, blood was drawn from their necks because their arms and hands were too small, which was a frightening and harmful procedure (Lagnado Dekel 62). Another branch of the blood tests were the blood transfusions. Dr. Mengele would transfuse one twin's blood into the bloodstream of the other twin to see the effects that it would have on them ("Mengele's Children"). Another set of gruesome experiments were the injections. Dr. Mengele would inject deadly amounts of typhus and tuberculosis into the body of a twin to see how long it would take to kill the child off, and then turn around and purposely kill their twin to record the different effects the germs carried in each twin (Shirer 1274). Dr. Mengele would also perform a series of eye experiments to see if he could change their dark eyes to a light crystal blue eyes by using eye drops and needles to inject chemicals into the children's eyes. These experiments would leave the twins practically blind for several days (Lagnado and Dekel 65 - 66).

The Gypsies were another group of people that Dr. Mengele liked. Their barracks were located near the twin's barracks and extremely c
