Trifles
Throughout the play ?Trifles? there are many events that change the character of Mrs. Peter?s. Mrs. Peter?s is the Sheriffs wife who accompanies him in one of his investigations. She is partnered with another woman, Mrs. Hale. Mrs. Hale is the wife of one of the key witnesses, and a neighbor to the crime scene. She has a significant influence in the development of Mrs. Peter?s in the play. During the investigation there are times in which the two women are left alone, primarily in the kitchen. They in turn carryout their own investigations while the men take care of their business. During this investigation is where we see the changes in Mrs. Peter?s character. A murder has taken place in the house of Mr. And Mrs. Wright. Mr. Wright was found strangled to death, by Hale the key witness in the play. Hale stopped by the Wright?s house to see if Mr. Hale would go in on a telephone with him. They were not the closest neighbors but they got along. The evidence has not proven anyone guilty, but the sheriff is holding Mrs. Wright in the jail for questioning. The women come along to pick up some things for Mrs. Wright. When they all arrive to the crime scene Mrs. Peter?s is a little timi
The next discovery in the woman?s investigation changes Mrs. Peters again. In a small box they thought contained sewing supplies they made a strange discovery. It was the bird with its neck broken, much like what happened to Mr. Wright. The women were not outgoing about their discovery. When the men asked them about the bird they said that the cat must have gotten in, although a cat did not exist. At this point Mrs. Peter?s is still claming, ?they do not know who did it.? d. She does not speak for a while, and when she does she has a nervous tone. When the women are left alone in the kitchen they get a chance to discus the situation. At this point, Mrs. Hale says ?I?d hate to have men coming into my kitchen, snooping around and criticizing.? Mrs. Peter?s defends the men?s work and says it?s only their duty. The women seem to get along very well at this point while they sort through the kitchen things. Mrs. Peter?s tends to avoid talking about the murder during their search. Mrs. Hale on the other hand is very curious as to what she thinks about it. She is a lot more outgoing then Mrs. Peter?s in the beginning. She asks Mrs. Peter?s if she thinks Mrs. Wright is guilty, and again Mrs. Peter?s becomes timid and says, ?Oh, I don?t know.? She is very nervous to express her opinion on the matter. In this particular part of the play we see Mrs. Peter?s take a big step. After discovering the bird she opens up to Mrs. Hale. She tells a story about when she was a little girl. She had a kitten, which was atta
