Joint and separated lifestyles in couple relationships have changed throughout the years. Studies show that one out of every two couples end in divorce. Based on this journal of joint and separated lifestyles in couple relationships shows that social activities, children, work, and cultural differences have a big effect on the relationship. One of the reasons I chose this article was because of the high increase of divorce in our society.

Social activity is a major reason why couples don't get along. It is one of the most difficult to work through because in many of the cases the each person in the relationship have different lifestyles and neither wants to change the way they have been living their lives. Couples who enjoy social activities together such as visiting their friends, family or going on vacation have a better chance of making a successful relationship than those that have different social schedules. A lot of the times separate relationships are caused by having different friends and not liking each other's friends. Other studies show that children also affect joint and separated lifestyles in couple relationships. Couples with children have difficult time out to social events and interacting with other couples that don't have children. Couples with children then to have better relationships if they have friends with children because it gives them the opportunity to socialize with people that understand them better and they can do activities that relate to them. Children can make the couple's relationship closer or can make the couple become more separated from each other. This can happen if one or both enjoy going out but they do not have or trust a babysitter, then one may go out without the other which can lead to problems with the relationship. Other reasons of joint and separated lifestyles is work because some times couples have different hours or work days making it difficult to spend time together. Again, with me having a child, when he was first born we were living in a city without any relatives to help out and we did not trust a babysitter so when one of us wanted to attend a social function, the other could not go.
