The Magic Of Monkey

'Monkey' from the 70's was recently performed, as a play by Grin and Tonic. Writer/director, Bryan Nason manipulated themes and issues, such as self-discovery, family, good against evil and acceptance. The performance used and demonstrated many elements of drama as well especially roles, relationships, space, place, movement and mood. At first, Monkey was the bad guy because he had been a menace in heaven by fighting all the time and eating the sacred peaches. But later when he and Tripitaka went on their journey, he converted to the good person or the hero, and even though his actions were very similar, he was using them for good purposes.

The relationships were expressed extremely well because we could immediately identify the type of relationships between the characters, such as the relationship between Monkey, Pigsy and Sandy, it became clear that they had become f
