Those Winter Sundays
Sundays to my father got up early: Contrasting attitudes about love “Those Winter Sundays” by Robert Hayden is a poem about a man recalling how his father use to get up early after along hard week of work to fix the fire to show his love to his family. The man recalling the past has contrasting attitudes about his fathers love. When the man was young he thought his father did not love him because he did not show any affection but his father showed his love in other ways. Throughout “Those Winter Sundays” Haden uses a lot of imagery to help you visualize what the father went through for his family and you can feel from the atmosphere in this poem how the man’s feelings have changed over the years about his love towards his father. It is obvious the father was a very hard worker by the line “with cracked hands that ached from labor in weekday weather.” Even though he worked long hard day
