Cartoon
What do you think of when I mention President Bush? Well, in every issue of the Daily Camera there is a political cartoon in the first section that sometimes is about Bush and his presidency, like it was a few days ago. In this particular cartoon, it is trying to portray President Bush and the economy of today's society by putting Bush on a treadmill, running hard, but not going anywhere. It looks like the drawing takes place in the oval office of the White House. Bush (the only character in the cartoon) is running on a treadmill sweating pretty profusely looking dumbfounded. He also looks extremely skinny, almost to the point of anorexia. On the treadmill reads "Economic Plan", which is referring to Bush's plan to rebound our slumping economy. While Bush is taking his run, he is exclaiming, "Going anywhere? No, but I'm in very good shape." One cannot help but get the notion that the cartoonist thinks that Bush's economic plan is not helping out this country's economic problems of today's society. All of his policies, for examp
I think the cartoonist is making a valid point in saying that our economy is not regaining its strength very fast, or in other words, staying in idle for now, true. Maybe this is a result of Bush's actions, maybe not. It depends on the person's views. Some may say that they don't like President Bush, some may say they agree and support him and his actions, and some might not be interested or involved in the political scene, like me. I, being only eighteen years old and in college, don't really have a lot of time to spend following politics or the economy. This is my point; one who looks at this cartoon might be in full support or one may laugh at it because they think it is ridiculous, depending on ones' view on Bush. As for this cartoon, I think it is the individual who comes upon and reads it should make their own opinion. I am neutral and don't have an opinion because I am in the dark in this topic. The question is, we as a country, can we help? Think and do all you can. Maybe we should not leave everything up to just Bush.
