Dna Testing

"That's not my kid." This can be heard on many talk shows on television. Many people go on talk shows to have DNA tests done to find the father's of the babies so they can find the real fathers and start getting some financial support from them.

DNA testing is a highly sophisticated laboratory process that was considered state of the art a few years ago. Today DNA testing is a very common practice that is used widely by many people. The United State Department of Justices has done a study on the use of DNA testing and they have found many issues involving the testing. DNA testing involves the use of blood, tissues, or any body fluids to find the DNA fingerprint of a person. DNA fingerprinting can be used to identify people. Although there can be many advantages with the use of DNA testing, there are too many controversies involved with the testing and it should not be used.

I think that DNA testing is too controversial to be used in determining whether or not a person goes to jail or not. There are too many things that can go wrong with the testing to be using it to determine a person's future. The only thing that should be used in determining a person's future is something that is not filled with so man

Another advantage of DNA testing is that a person can be identified with a small sample of body fluids or tissues. Scientists can use the smallest samples to find the DNA pattern and identify people with the DNA pattern. This helps many crimes get solved because of the way they can use the DNA testing to help identify people. Many people like FBI director William Sessions has praised the use of DNA testing. William Sessions has said that of all the new techniques emerging for the criminal investigator, is the DNA identification technology. Through a genetic pattern matching process, criminals can now be identified positively by comparing evidence from a crime scene (351). Another person that greatly praises the use of DNA testing is California's Attorney General. He was so amazed by the possibilities of DNA testing that he named a DNA advisory committee that was comprised of representatives from the FBI, the state bureau of Forensic services, District Attorneys, sheriffs and police. Law enforcement officials that attended the Forum on Criminal Justice also strongly supported the use of DNA testing. They said that DNA testing could help identify rapists, murderers, and other violent offenders.

Another issue that deals with DNA testing is that when the testing is done only segments of the DNA are tested not the entire strand. The entire strand should be tested to make sure that the sample found is a positive match to the other strand. There is a chance that if they only check the segment than another person might have the same segment and they might make a mistake. If they tested the entire strand then there would be no chance of a mistake in identifying a person.

DNA testing also presents many opportunities for errors. Many experts have found that they are many things that can go wrong with the testing. Some problems are that samples may be mixed with foreign debris or with other DNA sources. The DNA sample may also be too small, old, or damaged to be tested on. Blood or tissues can be easily contaminated thus affecting the outcome of the test. There can also be mistakes caused by humans' error. They might not read the samples correctly. Many of the mistakes with DNA testing were due to human error and it caused many mix-ups in the DNA samples.

DNA testing involves the use of body fluids and tissue samples. The samples are then arranged using electrophoresis. The DNA strand is then exposed on x-ray film to use for comparison to other stands. Another way to do the testing is when samples are obtained
