The behavior I chose for my observation activity is the problem that society has caused in the social work atmosphere between men and women in a business setting. I chose this behavior because I believe that over time, laws and regulations have made it difficult for men and woman to communicate professionally without some implication of wrong doing being implied. I believe that because of the strict laws against discrimination and sexual harassment a wall or barrier has been created between men and women in the work place. It seems that even a simple "hello" can be misinterpreted depending on the setting.
Given these conditions and these people, this is what I think will happen. I believed that in a business setting, male counterparts would find it awkward to speak to me on a social level. I also predict that in a casual setting such as a department store the situation would not be quite as awkward. I used two different settings
In conclusion, my theory was supported. Males in a business atmosphere appear to be hesitant to talk to females. I am not sure if males are afraid to talk to females in a business situation out of nervousness, ego, or fear, but never the less, they don't talk. Males in a casual atmosphere appear to be more comfortable speaking to woman. This may be because there are no harassment police, or discrimination agents present. I learned a lot about how human behavior could differ depending on the setting or conditions surrounding the situation.
to base my theory on. The first setting was outside the office building that I work in, and the second setting was a popular spot for all types of people to be in such as Walmart. I positioned myself outside my office building at different times of the day, as people would come and go. At another time I stood outside Walmart appearing to be waiting for someone.
