Nazi Germany

Nazi Germany was plagued with nearly a decade or more of arrests, imprisonments, executions, and concentration camps. German citizens lost all their civic rights and a wave of Anti-Semitism swept through the country. The justice system lost all fairness; judges and courts acted in interest of Nazism as well. All Jews who were judges were dismissed. Germany became a police state since they had absolute and arbitrary authority over citizens. The concentration camps housed political offenders or potential opponents. The camps were a mechanism of fear to control the masses. But they soon became a readily available place to get rid of the "undesirable" people (i.e. Jews). These camps were institutes of death, the occupants of the camps were either subjected to various forms of torture, starvation, brutality, and "medical research" which was freezing, sterilizing, and other horrendous acts.

The Jews were persecuted since the time the Nazis came to power in 1933; they were excluded from many employment opportunities, as well as from common places such as the grocery stores or theaters. To make things more horrid 7,500,000 foreign workers both male or female had slave labor forced upon them. The German Commanders left the sl

All this led to bitterness, furthermore the ordinary Germans can not be really blamed, since they were led like a heard of sheep, They just didn't know better. The soldiers who carried out these hideous acts are also really not to blame because they grew up wit a strong emphasis on authority, with a tradition of unquestioning obedience in family, school, army, church, and the state. Many of the soldiers stated that they were not guilty personally since they were just acting on orders passed down from higher state powers. They were just doing their job and duty to the state, as a soldier. Furthermore soldiers were not the only people to raise the death toll. A group of fourteen nurses were accused of "mercy killing" 100,000 to 200,000 patients under their care. The nurses said in their defense, that again they were just acting upon the order of the doctors, and some of them felt that it was a state operation and they had to obey. Most of the men and women who carried out these atrocities were acting under their commanders orders and just doing their job. This just illustrates what a danger a dictatorship can become. Especially when individuals give away their civic freedoms to the state and in turn they become sheep, and will do anything ordered upon them at the drop of a hat, such as murder.
