Did you ever wonder which television channel is better: MTV or BET? One is not better than the other, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If I had to choose, it would be MTV, because MTV is more diverse.

MTV, short for Music Television, first hit the airwaves August 1, 1981, aiming for the 12-25 age group. BET, which is short for Black Entertainment Television, was founded in January 1980, gearing towards the African American public. According to Viacom, the company that owns MTV and BET as well as other major cable channels, "MTV has over 79 million subscribers in the United States, while BET has only 71.9 million subscribers." Both channels are included with the standard cable television package; neither has to be bought additionally.

Both channels also have its own version of the famous Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. MTV has Cribs and BET has How I'm Living. The shows give the viewers a peek into celebrities' homes. On hte show Cribs, MTV allows a celebrity to give ta tour of their house and to explain what is special and intimate in their house. How I'm Living takes the same approach. Cribs aalso has other special shows such as Cribs Presents how to Live Like a Rock Star, wherethe show displays how celebrities do their "job" and what kind of perks come along with their job. Both channels also have its annual music awards show, MTV owning the MTV Video Music Awards and BET owning the BET Awards. Both, MTV and BET airs shows that are a like because both are own by the same company, so can one truly say that one is better than the other? No, one just has more success than the other.
