Harry Potter
"Harry Potter books are an international phenomenon; in two years the first book has been published in 115 countries in 25 languages." (Lipson) A book of this magnitude was written not by a famous author, but by a newcomer to the writing world, J.K. Rowling. J.K. Rowling stands for Joanne Kathleen. She thought if she were to use her real name boys would think that it was a girl's book and would not read the Harry Potter series. Harry Potter, despite her fears, has turned out to be a book loved by both boys and girls alike. "J.K. Rowling was born in Chepstow, Gwent England in 1965." (www.alexlibris.com) Joanne has been married twice. Her first marriage was to a man named Jorge Arantes in 1992. They were divorced after Joanne had her little girl named Jessica in 1993. Her second marriage was to man named Dr. Neil Murray in 2001 and they are still married today. J.K. wrote Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone during her first marriage. She got the idea in a train on her way to Kings Cross Station, which was a four-hour train ride from where she was. (www.HarrypotterFans.net) She made up most of the characters and used things like street names for some too. She had fun making up a world that was all her own. J.K
I have read all the Harry Potter books so far and have loved all of them. J.K. Rowling really knows how to keep your attention focused so that when you come to the end of the chapter you want to read on. Even though the Potter books tend to follow the same format each book is different in its on way. Voldemort is a never-ending enemy to Harry Potter and each book follows the others to make it a wonderful series where Harry is trying to revenge his parents' death. J.K. Rowling is making a series of seven books each going from when Harry is eleven years old to the time he is seventeen and an adult wizard. I am looking forward to the next book titled Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which is due out in November of 2002 along with the next movie. www.potter.Godlike.com Harry Potter is a great book that children and adults love. J.K. Rowling did not realize that her idea over the duration of a train ride was going to turn in to a phenomenon. Even though there are websites and books against reading the Potter series they are a delight to read and I feel a new hit with kids and parents alike. . admits that Hermoine Granger is a little like herself though, but not as annoying. Harry Potter is mirrored and named after her good friend Ian Potter, and There are four positions in Quidditch seeker, beater, chaser, and keeper. The seeker is supposed to be lightweight and fast so he can easily fly all over the playing field looking for the snitch. It is his job to catch the snitch before the other opposing seeker does to end the game. The chaser's job is to use the quaffle ball and score points for their team. There are three chasers on each team. The beater's job is to use a wooden stick and keep bludgers away from their teammates so that they will not get hit off their brooms. They also have to whack the ball back to the other team and try to knock the opposing players off their brooms. There are two beaters per team. There is one keeper per team. The keeper would be like a muggle goaltender in soccer. He is supposed to keep the quaffle ball that is thrown by the other team from entering one of the three posts of his own team. (The Playing Field of Hogwarts) J.K. Rowling created tons of characters from Harry Potter to Moaning Murtle, the dead ghost that haunts the girl's bathroom. One thing she created and described down to the last detail was Quidditch. Quidditch is a made up word that in the Harry Potter series is a game that she states is like flying basketball. The game is played on brooms in the sky, with three different balls. The snitch is a small round ball caught by seekers to end the Quidditch game. If the seeker catches it, it adds an extra 150 points usually to help the team win unless the other team has more than 150 points. The snitch is called after the bird snidget, which is a very round bird
