Moses
I don't think we can fully appreciate the greatness of this man without coming to appreciate how much he gave up and what it meant for him to model such selfless dedication. 1. The beginning of Moses' life. Moses is thought to be a man after God's own heart. This is very true in many ways. Moses did many good things for God's people, but as with many great people triumphs did not come without failure and fear. We can learn a lot from this man's life. Even though Moses doubted, he followed God and it came out to benefit a whole nation of people. We should all try to have the kind of faith that Moses possessed. Moses was never the most holy of people or the greatest follower of God there ever was, but God used him for the good of God's kingdom. The same way God can use us, even when we fall short of what we should be. Herbert Lockyer says " The story of his rescue from the water by Pharaoh's daughter, of her adoption of him as her own son and his royal upbringing has charmed our hearts from the earliest years". This is so true for many of us. Moses has the ultimate adoption story. He was brought from what seems certain death into splendor that most people have never seen. This is a symbo
First, in their journey they did not have water. God heard their pleas and provided. Next, they did not like the food God provided so once again God provided better food. Charles Swindoll says "The Israelites had feasted on the diet of Egypt, and they loved it so much they simply could not be satisfied with anything less." Here you have a huge group of people delivered out of slavery by God, and what do they do, grumble. These people are being lead by God himself because they are his chosen people and they whine the whole time. This would frustrate me to no end. I admire Moses a lot here, because he just gives it up to God and God provides for Moses. When the Israelites got to the Red Sea God hardened Pharaoh's heart and gave chase. This is another instance in which Moses trusted God even when things were at their worst. God led his people into what looked like that most troubling predicament ever. Here was this rag-tag convoy of over one million Hebrews, and God puts them between the Egyptians and a giant body of water. Many of our lives seem like this, God leads us somewhere that seems foolish, but we have to trust him just as Moses did. Everyone with him to turn back and cursed God, but Moses had faith and this event turned into the most famous story in the bible. This man had such love for his people, and such faith in God. The most difficult point to this great story is; because of his people, Moses never got to see the Promised Land. The people rebelled against God after the law had been given to them. Moses pleaded with God for the people to be spared, but God does not let the guilty go unpunished. No one who saw his signs in the desert were allowed to enter the land flowing with milk and honey (Numbers 14:20). Moses died in the desert never seeing Canaan, or the Promised Land. Moses' leadership was given over to Joshua son of Nun. God brought Moses up out of the desert for what would be the mo
