Terrorism

The media influences what people to think by using manipulative techniques. Manipulative techniques are used in newspaper articles such as "Bush: Give me free rein to KO Saddam." The news media has influenced the way people to think about terrorism and other aspects dealing with politics within the United States government. Three essays have talked about political information being influenced by the media. The authors of those three are George Orwell, Stuart Hirschberg, and Neil Postman including Steve Powers. George Orwell has written an essay titled "Politics and the English Language" based on political issues based on "euphemism"(Orwell 508). Stuart Hirschberg has written an essay titled "Analyzing the Rhetoric of Nixon's 'Checkers Speech'" based on techniques used in journalism. One technique that will be discussed would be "repetition" (Hirschberg 508). Neil Postman and Steve Powers has written an essay titled "How to Watch TV News" that deals with creation of pictures and words which are presented to the audience through the television.

The newspaper article, "Bush: Give me free rein to KO Saddam" is about President Bush asking permission to go to Iraq and fight Saddam Hussein in war to stop terrorism from sp


Terrorism has been used a lot throughout the media and indirectly in the newspaper, television news, and magazines. In the article discussed, they have not mentioned the word terrorism or terrorist within the article but they have said it indirectly. The quotation, "against the treat posed by Iraq and restore international peace and security in the region," says that the President wants to get rid of terrorism or terrorist. The media has influenced people to think that terrorism is happening by the usage of phrases and certain words that they mention.

In Stuart Hirschberg's essay "Analyzing the Rhetoric of Nixon's 'Checker's Speech'"is based on the usage of words within a political writing. A manipulative technique introduced by Stuart Hirschberg is "repetition" (Hirschberg 514). "Repetition" from the newspaper article is the mentioning of President Bush wants to keep peace by using force against Iraq and it happens to be that some of the House of Representatives has said the same thing. The resolution has been in repetition throughout the article in "Bush: Give me free rein to KO Saddam." The Presidents quotes also show repetition from the newspaper.
