To Burn or Not to Burn
A detailed Summary of To Burn or Not to Burn
Every year, when fall arrives, most people have leaves fall from their trees onto their lawns. Many people decide that simply raking the leaves into a huge pile and burning them is far easier than raking them into several piles and putting them into bags. Those people who choose to burn the leaves are probably right. Simply burning the leaves is the easier decision, but it is not very considerate to do if you live in a residential area. Not only is the smell from burning leaves hideous, there are also many other negative things about it. This is why burning leaves should be made illegal.
If burning leaves was illegal, people with breathing problems would not have to worry whether or not it was safe for them to go outside. When someone is burning, the smoke that is produced lingers in the air. Many people with asthma or other breathing problems find, that given this situation, it is hard to breathe. Everyone has the right to enjoy a beautiful autumn day, and this is just one reason burning in a residential area should be banned.
A second reason is that burning is essentially a fire hazard. Some people do not know what they are doing when they decide to burn their leaves. Many times, a person d

oes not put enough fire into the leaf pile, and as a result the leaves smolder-creating a thick smoke, which makes it difficult to see anything. Other times, a person may add too much fire and the pile will burn out of control. One last thing that could happen, when burning leaves, is that if a person decides to burn on a really dry day, there is a high chance that the grass around the leaves may start on fire and spread rapidly. Anything that is a fire hazard is dangerous in any situation, and neighborhoods would be safer if burning leaves was illegal.
People who have burned their leaves for many years, argue that the reason they do so is because bagging the leaves is much more work. This is true, however, there are many ways one can lesson the workload. One such way is getting younger children to help out. Most kids love helping mom and dad because they feel important doing so. Raking and bagging the leaves could be a fun project for these children because after making a huge pile of them, they could run and jump before they bag them up. There are also decorative bags, such as spiders and pumpkins that a child could help pick out to help decorate the yard for Halloween.
